Hello Region 6, I hope you are enjoying the latest issue of the Sensor.

I do not know if you know that the journal was created and is dedicated to the advances in our field of anesthesia technology. Since its inception the journal included articles and intended to disseminate information to equip professionals like yourselves. My name is Otoniel Castillo, and I am your interim Region 6 director.

As we move through the winter and early spring of 2026, our profession finds itself in a good place. The leadership has made some important decisions that have positioned our society in a great place for growth. Make sure to register for the upcoming webinars. These webinars are the main method for delivery of CE hours to membership. However, do not forget the Sensor articles. ASATT has also decided to offer face-to-face meetings for networking within the region where it is offered. The face-to-face meetings should add to your ability to get all your hours.

Furthermore, if you have a co-worker or acquaintance that needs to become certified, ASATT has created the opportunity for non-certified anesthesia technicians to become certified through the Practical Experience Pathway. We ask that you distribute this information to all who may need it. However, this opportunity is only available to people with certain years of experience and work histories in the United States. Please consult the ASATT website.

A colleague of ours, Delbert Macanas a past Region 7 director and president, used to include various quotes from famous people in his regional reports. I will add on short quote that I think will be useful to many of us.

Angela Duckworth is a famous psychologist. She is the author of a book called Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance. In her exploration of what grit is she finds that "To be gritty is to keep putting one foot in front of the other. It's not a sprint; it's a marathon." It took a little time but now we now enjoy programs that teach using rigorous scholarship.

We currently find ourselves in a position where we can advocate for our profession in a more structured and intentional manner. Our president, Mike Kosanke, and the rest of the board of directors are making important decisions that will affect the future of anesthesia technology professionals. As we move towards more active advocacy with more focus, I ask you to help push our cause forward.

ASATT’s mission is to provide a platform where certified anesthesia technologists and technicians have a voice. We are deeply grateful to you for your membership and your participation within our society.

We invite you to engage with ASATT as we navigate this transformative era together.

Warm regards,

Otoniel Castillo MLS, Cer.A.T.T.
